05.31.2008: Joshua Allen Harris and Banksy Street Art
Lately I have really been digging street art. I love it for many reasons: Because the artists are obviously not concerned with art for financial gain, I identify with the subjects of most pieces, and I respect the statement street art makes when compared to advertising. We all accept advertising everywhere--outdoor billboards and signs, online ads, TV--you guys know it all. It's literally in our faces. Yet many are offended by street art and graffiti. It seems to me the only difference between a billboard and an awesome piece of street art is the fact that a corporation made money off of the advertisement. And usually the graffiti is much more credible from an artistic standpoint. Have a look:
